Many people usually depict jamu as an Indonesian traditional herbal medicine. I shall quote from Wikipedia, “Jamu is traditional medicine in Indonesia.” Upon further research into practices of consuming jamu, I realize that jamu is not solely about the remedies for healing diseases. based on jamu healing practices and the concept and philosophies behind it, I understand that jamu is also a tradition which has been praticed for hundred of years until it becomes the way of life of Javanese society. Jamu has been shaped and developed under the influences of Javanese conceptions (belief systems, social life, mind set and perception, etc), which are also shaped under influences from other conceptions that came to Indonesia as a result of international relationship with other country and civilizations during the ancient times.
