Description
Summary:This report documents the author’s final year project on the synthesis of metal complex crystals of bisisoquinoline derivatives and their X-ray crystallography. The report consists of five chapters: 1) Introduction, 2) Methodology 3) Experimental, 4) Results and Discussion and 5) Conclusion. The Introduction chapter presents the project objective and project scope as well as a literature review on the importance of vicinal N/N ligands in organic chemistry and the chemistry of bisisoquinoline derivatives. The Methodology chapter contains the justification as well as working principles of the techniques used in the project such as cooling crystallization, thin-layer chromatography, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The Experimental chapter documents the experimental runs and observations obtained for all the metal complex samples prepared in the project. The Results and Discussion chapter comprises of the description and discussion on the X-ray structures of three samples of metal complex crystals obtained in the project namely, the Ag(I) complex of BIQ 14, Pd(II) complex of BIQ 16 and Ag(I) complex of BIQ 16. The Conclusion chapter sums up the report with an overview of the results obtained in the project.
