Description
Summary:This report presents the details of the projects, including the design considerations, the design processes by simulation, the optimization by impedance measurement, the antenna configuration and result comparisons, as well as the conclusion. The main objective of this project is to design an ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID tag antenna with omni-directional radiation patters in the azimuth plane. The antenna was simulated with the aid of IE3D software. An RFID tag was prototyped using the antenna and a microchip. The tag performance was validated in free space first, very good omni-directivity was observed in azimuth plane. The RFID tag prototype was then attached to a Sushi plate; it was found that the plastic Sushi plate shows sever effect on the tag performance. By co-design the tag antenna with the plastic Sushi plate, the tag performance is observed to be much enhanced.
