Description
Summary:Due to the scarcity of natural resources in Singapore and the high dumping cost of plastic waste, an effective method for recycling those materials is required. This project was focused on producing a value-added lightweight constuction material, using marine clay, sand and plastic waste. A laboratory study of the engineering and mechanical properties of the geo-plastic material with different polypropylene contents was conducted. This study focused on compressive strength and strain behavior of the geo-plastic material as compared to products of other conventional fabrication methods such as cement. It is found that geo-plastic material is as strong as low grade concrete and lighter than cement treated materials. It gains full strength mroe quickly than cement-based products. Moreover, It is more cost-effective to be produced. This makes geo-plastic material to be a promising new material to be used in civil engineering applications
