Summary: | Computer graphics (CG) animation has became a household name in recent times. And the
demand for CG in film, games and commercials have been larger than ever. With the increase in this
demand for CG, ultimately leads to the decrease of production lead time for any CG animation.
This project will seek to determine methods of reducing the time and effort required to
produce a CG animation by researching on existing methods used by professional CG artist and
importing methods commonly used in game creation into the creation of a CG animation.
A host of 3D softwares were used to demonstrate different production reduction methods
and its effectiveness in two separate projects (The Human Hearing Process and The Coral Reef). One
of the most notable time reduction method was demonstrated through baking final gather points to
a static model, which reduced the rendering time by as much as seventy percent. Another notable
reduction methods demonstrated, was the use of audio to animate the human hearing process,
which not only reduced the animation workload but also enabled accurate synchronization that was
not possible with conventional means of key frame animation.
The findings in this report will seek to further benefit individuals or small groups looking to
create impressive CG animations without excess to resources like manpower or render farms. |
