Description
Summary:Micro ring resonators provide the characteristic of a filter which function as an add-drop multiplexer in most integrated photonic application. Its wavelength selective properties of resonance makes possible for channel dropping to have the prospect of delivering signals of different resonance wavelengths to various drop port destinations of different resonance wavelengths. The micro ring resonators still have its shortcoming in which the inter-band crosstalk occurs as well as the ineffectiveness to deliver high efficient transmission in some cases in the photonic circuits due to the imperfection in design. In this project, the author will look into several case studies of different coupling parameters which affect the result of the transmission in the integrated micro ring resonators designs and come up with appropriate optimized micro ring resonators designs through photonic simulation. In addition, the author will make appropriate considerations on scaling down the micro ring resonators designs incorporate with the limitation of the simulation software and also achieving a smaller size of silicon based add-drop multiplexer using the micro ring resonator design.
