Summary: | Within the range of light sources, high brightness light emitting diodes (HBLEDs) are currently the fastest growing and beginning to replace other types of lighting, such as incandescent, fluorescent, halogen and even HID. LED technology has evolved from instrumentation lighting stage into architectural and decorative lighting as well as signage. Therefore LEDs and their driver circuits are increasing largely in demand. This project is a lab base hardware project on design and implementation of high voltage LED buck regulator control circuit.
At first, there were plenty of research works on LED technology and driver ICs. In current market, there are varieties of end-product LED driver ICs. To select a correct and suitable driver IC to meet the criteria of the project guideline is one of the toughest researches in the project.
This report presents the steps in the design and limitations of the LED buck converter and the control circuit. The calculations for the components’ values are reflected in design process. Various considerations and limitations for the selection of the various components are also spelled out in details. In addition the full circuit layout on VERO board is implemented.
Finally, it includes the hardware implementation and simulation results where discussions and conclusions were derived. A detail explanation on how the hardware is designed and implemented and will also be discussed and how the future work should be implemented in order to improve the existing LED driver circuit. |
