The purpose of the project is to study the visibility of applying hedge fund strategies onto one’s investment portfolios to generate higher returns. The climate of the financial industry in Asia is changing as investors are feeling unsatisfied with the low interest rates and bond yields returns against fast rising inflations. The hedge fund industry which is growing rapidly in the region is seen as the alternative investment route for better returns. The perception of hedge funds are inherently risky has dissipated as investors embrace the mythical hedging techniques that have performed well for them in the modern volatile market. This report is divided into two main parts. The first part covers the student’s study research on hedge fund and strategies. It will provide readers a brief overview of the history of hedge fund and the modern hedge fund industry and their performance in the current market. The report also gives a view on Singapore market and stock exchange before illustrating the trading mechanics used in hedging techniques. The second part of the report will look at the student’s in-depth explanations and applications of selective hedge funds strategies on stocks listed on the Singapore Exchange. It will provide details on stock selection process and performance analysis with the use of fundamental and technical analysis.
