In this report, the student presented a home surveillance robot which can detect abnormal events with its visual capability and mobility. The robot can detect the heartbeat of the family member; it also can be easily controlled by the Wii Remote as well as the user interface in the remote computer. A development board was designed and assembled by the student based on the HITACHI H8/3062F micro controller. With the popularity of WIFI coverage in the family, WIFI was selected as the wireless communication media due to its low cost and high stability. Hitachi Embedded Workshop was used as the embedded program development tool and C#.NET was selected as the PC based development tool. The robot provides live video stream as well as the real time heartbeat monitoring. It can send alert through SMS and email once unwanted motion was detected. It also provides screenshots for the selected place and angle through a special email request.
