Description
Summary:With the many professors who teach in the School of EEE, come hundreds of their offices located throughout the buildings of EEE. This results in many students, even after a few years in the school, having a need to check the offices of different professors when the need arises. This is more evident for first time visitors to the school, and with the offices on different levels in different buildings, directions to the offices is not an easy task. The many laboratories of the school are also spread throughout the buildings, and with the design of the building, some locations can only be accessed through the use of a particular lift or staircase. This further increases the difficulty of giving directions to people to the different offices and laboratories. The interactive touch screens located at the office levels of S1 and S2 has allowed visitors and students to find the room numbers of professors’ offices and room numbers of the many laboratories located throughout the school of EEE. This however, only allows a user of the screen to find the room number of either the office of a professor or a laboratory. It would still be not very helpful for someone who has not been the buildings and are unfamiliar with the actual locations of the rooms. The project covers the scope of integrating a route map function to the interactive touch screen directory. Route finding algorithms are implemented in the design of the function, as the basic idea of the function is to get to the destination using the most direct route. The final design allows a user to select a professor name or laboratory name, after which it will show the directions, with diagrams, on the screen.
