Description
Summary:Designing modern power systems to become robust and reliable require good understanding of the electric field stress in power apparatuses. With emphasis on electric field stress control, electric field computation is unavoidable. In this project, computer simulation software is used to simulate various physical objects to achieve optimization or meaningful conclusion. Ansoft MAXWELL 3D is employed to model and carry out the simulations. The report begins with a short discussion on Methods of Moments and Finite Element Methods, to get familiarize with the numerical methods which are the foundation of electric field computation. It would be followed by the first case which sees the modeling and simulation of a rod-plane gap to obtain optimization. In the second case, field stress in cylindrical and graded bushing is simulated and compared. Next, micro roughness effects on electric field induced is being study by modeling micro-spikes onto one of the surface of a two sphere configuration. Lastly, a void is modeled and simulation in dielectric to inspect electric field magnitude in the void.
