Summary: | In picosatellites, significant fraction of mass, volume, and majority of its power are consumed by the communication subsystems. Hence, the design of the communication subsystems is vital to the overall satellite and mission plans.
Antenna is the key component of the satellite communication system. In this report, monopole antenna with the operating frequency of 2.4GHz will explored for the development of the CubeSat. This report introduces the basic knowledge of CubeSat and antenna parameters. The antenna‟s dimension is determined through theoretical calculations and the different monopole antenna designs are presented. The monopole antenna designs include: single monopole, two linear monopoles, two diagonal monopoles and four-element planar monopoles.
The main scope of this project is to study and analyze how the different monopole antennas designs affect the performance of the overall antenna structure. The monopole antenna designs are modeled and simulated using Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB). The simulation results are presented and discussed. It was found that number of elements, distance between elements, and the placement of the elements could affect the general performance of an antenna. Finally, recommendations for future enhancement are also included in this report. |
