Description
Summary:In this wireless technologically driven era, conventional wired sensors are phasing out to wireless sensors.[1] Wireless sensors can provide convenience and have better features compared to the conventional ones. This project will feature on wireless sensor network to sense temperature and light. A particle detecting system is also implemented. The hardware employed in this project is: a wireless IRIS mote with MDA100CB sensor board and MIB520 interface board, and also a webcam. Visual C++ with OpenCV is used to implement the particles monitoring system while LabVIEW is used to display the data collected from the sensor node with some signal processing. Built in functions in OpenCV are used to detect the particles. From detecting to displaying the collected data of the particles detected, several functions were used. Detected particles will be highlighted on a window screen and data collected from the particle(s) will be logged into an easily retrievable file. Several limitations were encountered such as limited sampling rate and accuracy of measuring the size of the particles. Problems encountered during the project were discussed and possible solutions are proposed.
