Description
Summary:The discussion on event management system in the manufacturing process has been extensively reported in the literature. However, due to the complex challenge faced by the current manufacturing industries, the development of event management systems has not been satisfactorily attempted. Based on literature review, we understand that the ability to adapt to changes is one of the most important elements needed in any advanced information and knowledge based system. Among the technique for adaptation of changes, rule systems have been shown to provide many desirable features. Aligned with that suggestion, a Rule-based Event Management System (REMS) has been proposed and prototyped in this project to address some of the issues faced in the current event management system. REMS offers a platform to integrate multiple data sources and provides flexibility to accommodate changes in event handling process. In addition, REMS introduces English-like Rule Language (ERL) interface to allow the knowledge expert, who commonly does not have any programming background, to define and manipulate the rules throughout the system.
