Description
Summary:There is a strong demand for the Internet to support high quality client-server based video applications, e.g., video-on-demand, TV broadcasting and telemedicine. Unfortunately, the existing Internet is not suitable for such applications because of the highly dynamic network traffic, great diversity in link bandwidth, and the inability to provide resource reservation and Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. The problem of providing high quality video is compounded further by Internet hosts having very diverse capability, ranging from low end 80486 PCs to ultra-high speed multi-processor servers.
