Especially for eCommerce where goods and services are being exchange and monetary is involve in the process. Username and passwords have proven to be weak form of authentication method. Websites are being hacked into, using various attack modes. Banks, military and other high security organization introduced a token as a 2nd factor authentication but it still proves security loophole and bring inconvenience to user. Passwords are being forgotten, tokens are lost, security being compromised. Biometrics is the solution to security issues as it is ‘what you are’ instead of ‘what you know’ or ‘what you have’. Various biometric techniques are being explored. Each has their own characteristics of strengths and weaknesses to be used for e-security. Face and fingerprint recognition are being discussed and detail to be implemented for the solution for authentication. Multimodal biometric is being implemented to complement the strengths and weaknesses for face and fingerprint recognition systems. It brings flexibility into the system rather than having a unimodal. Both biometrics can complement each other strengths and weaknesses to achieve a high security, high performance, high acceptance and high convenience for consumers. Two models of using the multimodal biometric system are being suggested. One being high acceptance in nature to bring convenience where user choose to log in using either face or fingerprint recognition only or if one fail the other takes over. The other model is the high security model where user will log in using face recognition as 1st factor to make simple transactions and having a 2nd factor authentication using Fingerprint recognition to ensure a secure transaction. Website model is being constructed to simulate the usage of both models using a typical shopping website and an internet banking website is used to illustrate only the high security model. Biometrics aims to solve the current security problems of using username and passwords to log in. Although some social issues are inheritance in biometric systems, its advantages still make it strong for the solution.
