Description
Summary:The effects of scouring of cohesionless sediment by wall jet have been presented in this study. As reported in previous studies, the densimetric Froude number (F0) has been found to be the governing factor in the scouring mechanism. To a lesser extent, the sediment height will also contribute to the resulting scouring characteristics. The various parameters measured in the scouring of cohesionless sediment have been found to follow the logarithmic of time, with the exception being the ridge height. The ridge height is found to initially grow logarithmically, until which it starts to stabilize. This time of stabilization (t*) is noted to be the asymptotical state for the scouring process. Using the relationships from the different scouring parameters, an estimation of the volume of sediment scoured at asymptotic state is being formulated. In addition, the minimum cleansing velocity has been determined.
