Summary:This study analyses the link between corporate sustainability and corporate long term profitability built on a case of 4 companies from mining (BHP Billiton and RIO Tinto) and automotive industries (Toyota and BMW). The first part of this report presents backgroung information on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and how it could be linked with core competencies of individual companies. It includes literature review on CSR from a strategic perspective and illustrates how to measure financial performance of CSR activities and which metrics to use for sustainability performance assessment.The business case for CSR and other counter arguments are also discussed.
