Grading and prognostic factors of papillary renal cell carcinoma

This study aims at understanding the current trend of Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma (PRCC) cases in Singapore based on the pathological records in the Singapore General Hospital from the years 2001 to 2009. Of the 50 cases chosen for this study, 42 are males, 8 are females; more cases of Type 2 PRC...

Of the 50 cases chosen for this study, 42 are males, 8 are females; more cases of Type 2 PRCC are reported than Type 1 PRCC (74% vs 22%). After reviewing the slides, the highest occurring Fuhrman grade is grade 2 in Type 1 PRCC (12 cases) and grade 3 in Type 2 PRCC (19 cases); the highest occurring nucleolar grade is grade 1 in Type 1 PRCC (7 cases) and grade 2 in Type 2 PRCC (19 cases). More tumours occur on the left side of the kidney than the right side; and incidence of PRCC more or less follows the population proportion that more Chinese are affected by PRCC than the rest of the population.
