The importance of stacks goes beyond that strictly technical definition . Stacks analysis is vital to the very essence of the design process, and skill at calculating stacks is the mark of the truly ability of engineer. This project develops a new approach towards tolerance stack analysis in an assembly. This approach uses the "rooted tree" as the basic foundation to develop a master representation of the assembly model for designers and engineers to calculate clearance and interference in an assembly. The approach which has the potential of being computerization will significantly reduce the amount of work and time required as compared to conventional method which is tedious and time consuming. Two examples are used to illustrate the effectiveness of this method.
