Summary:Surfing the Internet for information poses challenges to users, novice and expert alike. Internet users searching the World Wide Web possess varying levels of computer literacy, Internet literacy, Internet training, search skills, system knowledge and experience. This study explored the use of the Internet among twenty-eight young adults in the age group of 12 and 16 years old in a public library. Demographic data, their perceptions of the Internet and the search process were explored. Data was gathered on the young adults' computer and Internet literacy, Internet experiences and search skills. A triangulation method of analysis for this study was adopted using a questionnaire with multiple choice questions, unobtrusive observations on the young adult's searching on the Internet and interviews with the young adults.
