Description
Summary:The main focus of the study is an exploratory empirical investigation on quantitative determinants of bank profitability in South East Asia. The study examines the existence of any structural relationship between key financial ratios and bank profitability, which is measured by the return on assets. The study also provides explanations to the differences in effects of profitability determinants in the five South East Asia countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. A total of 121 locally incorporated commercial banks were included in the sample. A multivariate regression analysis was performed for data collated over 6 years, from 1992 to 1997.
