Summary: | Reliable functionality is crucial in a microgrid. Hence, both sensing and communication play important roles. With the feasibility of the deployment of wireless technology with wired network, the combination of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Local Area Network (LAN) allows monitoring and control of data exchange in a microgrid, such as the amount of generated power in the system. Fixed WiMAX serves as the primary communication network for data exchange between buildings within the school campus, whereas the LAN serves as the secondary communication network within a building, with power meters attached to the Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and loads.
This project will focus on the integration of WiMAX system operating at 5.8 GHz with LAN for data exchange between the server side and client side of the microgrid. The WiMAX system includes a Base Station (BS) and a Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), whereby the BS connects to the server side for data monitoring and the CPE connects to the LAN for gathering power measurements from the DERs to be sent to the server. At the server side, a Graphic User Interface (GUI) will be implemented for monitoring the collected data during the transmission between the server and the client. |
