Description
Summary:Precast segmental construction techniques have been commonly employed for the construction of prestressed concrete bridge, flyover and viaduct in Europe since early 1960's. These techniques were subsequently spread to North and South America in 1970'. Given the high speed of construction, good quality of concrete product, great flexibility in span lengths, perfect fit in tight curve and minimal disruption to environment/traffic, these techniques have also been introduced into the Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, South Korea, Hong Kong etc. in the past ten years. This dissertation is to give a detailed account of the different segmental construction techniques for bridges and to look into a number of the recent and current prestigious projects in which the segmental construction techniques have been employed or are being employed.
