Summary:In the international library scene, the changing role of paraprofessionals has brought about many issues. This research has been conducted to examine the roles and functions of paraprofessionals working in the public libraries in Singapore. It also seeks to find out what are the issues surrounding paraprofessionals as a result of their role change. The main objectives of the research are: 1. To compare old and new responsibilities by reviewing and analysing job descriptions 2. To review the overlap of job responsibilities between professionals and paraprofessionals 3. To investigate the effectiveness of paraprofessionals in handling their new responsibilities 4. To examine the professional development activities of paraprofessionals 5. To survey paraprofessionals' training and continuing education needs 6. To study paraprofessionals' views towards their changing role.
