Description
Summary:The electronic commerce industry in Singapore is currently generating much excitement throughout all user and supplier circles as it is just now beginning to take shape. Singapore has stated its intention to be the electronic commerce hub in the region and is aggressively promoting itself through initiatives such as Singapore ONE, Electronic Commerce Hotbed and IT2000. As such, the market potentials for electronic commerce are tremendous. This paper attempts to analyse the market opportunities for electronic commerce in the travel industry, and describes how industry players can take advantage of the potential. A review of the travel industry is provided, together with an analysis of the different players in the market, using a combination of Michael Porter's value chain analysis and competitive framework. The results indicate that there are many opportunities for electronic commerce in the travel industry, including an analysis of the impact on and possible strategies for each actor in the industry. Further, the issues and concerns related to electronic commerce is highlighted.
