Description
Summary:The adoption of CALS/EC as a strategy, has been generating a lot of interest, especially in Asia, with its potential in improving overall productivity and reducing costs. Since its evolution in the 1990's, the CALS movement has been very active in the US, Europe and Japan. The convergence of computer networking and telecommunications technologies has led to the possibility of companies forming virtual linkages between each other as opposed to individual companies doing business across physical borders in the past. This is the premise in which the CALS/EC concept is built upon. This dissertation looks into the brief history of CALS and its impact on companies that have adopted the concept and a proposed framework for the implementation of CALS/EC in the Singapore manufacturing industries.
