Summary: | For many years, the study on sludge granulation has been mainly focused on the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB)
systems. UASB reactors are commonly applied on the treatment of strong organic wastewater. Through the means of sludge
granulation, the advantage of UASB system is its ability to retain a very high concentration of biomass in the reactor despite the upflow velocity of the wastewater and the production of biogas.
However, several fundamentals of this anaerobic process are not yet well understood. It is necessary to understand how factors influence this process and what is the likely mechanism of sludge granulation. |
