Summary: | This study aims at finding out the patterns of citing behaviour of researchers who
have contributed their articles to the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, a bi-annual
publication of the History Department, National University of Singapore. The
citations of every other article in three five-year segments, namely, 1970-1974, 1980-
1984 and 1990-1994, were carefully studied and classified into different groups.
Their age, country of origin, literature type, and language were noted. The total
number of citations, percentage of self-citation, the most frequently-cited journals
and the geographical base of contributors were also studied. A comparison of citation
patterns across the three five-year segments was done to find out if any differences
did exist and to account for these differences. Lastly, an attempt was made to draw out the implications for library and information service arising out of the findings of this study. |
