Analysis of fiber Raman amplifiers noise performance

Over the past years, the development of dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) systems has made great progress, with expectation to span the entire low-loss range of 1.2-1.7 micrometer in silica fibers. This huge bandwidth is only accessible if suitable optical amplifiers are available.
