Summary: | Singapore has a global reputation as a country with a tight administration and regulatory practices. One of our more famously contested edicts is the laws prohibiting homosexuality that somehow gives our nation an air of homophobia. In this research project, I seek out to find the level of acceptance the people of Singapore have, including their response towards the idea of homosexuality, from the gay men's point of view. In my preliminary research, I've found that homosexual men face deferential treatment during their terms in National Service, specifically in the Singapore Armed Forces, relative to heterosexual men, and I would aim to focus my research on the military institution and see whether this discrimination, if any, reflects the nation's official stand towards homosexuality. |
