Description
Summary:"Please Knock After You Enter" is a collection of observations and ideas from the sounds and noises we encounter daily. It takes form as an immersive multi-sensory site specific installation, inviting participants to explore the everyday action of knocking and the happenings resulting from it. The interactive audiovisual space creates an environment that amalgamates various straightforward actions and interactions into an abstract, musical realm, suggesting a connection between the various percussive acts. In this report, I will explain more about the theories and foundations behind the installation, delving into the definitions and boundaries of ‘music’ and ‘noise’. I will then go on to discuss more about the metaphors used in transferring the concepts and ideas into physical form, as well as the creative decisions in acquiring and employing source material. Due to the expanse of the topic and the variability of different cultures, I have decided to focus my work and research around largely middle-class, modern urban societies such as Singapore. Lastly, I shall detail the technical aspects in executing the installation and the challenges faced along the way.
