Agents, or computer-generated characters, are an integral part of every software, enhancing the experience of virtual worlds and assisting the users with learning or entertainment. This project looks at two different, yet important techniques in improving the agent modeling. This project draws from psychological study into human memory to understand the significance of episodic memory, as a non-specialized memory system to augment the agent memory through encoding and retroactive analysis, in order to enhance the memory and consequently, the decision making ability of the agent. The project looks at the design requirements and the implementation methodology, the Soar architecture, to support such a memory system. While it is general to take into consideration the emotions during a human-to-human interaction, it is rare to find the same in a human-to-machine interaction. This research emphasizes on the advantages of inculcating emotion recognition through the OCC Model to make software more sociable. This project also implements this model in a Third Person Controlled game using the Unity 3D platform. Finally, this project looks into the recent inventions of gesture recognition hardware, used for gaming, to enhance the emotion and personality recognition accuracy.
