Compared to other vehicles (OV), PTWs are relatively small in size and cheap to own and maintain. As a result, they are gaining popularity amongst road users in today’s increasingly congested roads. Convenient and popular as they are, PTWs accidents are proportionately more frequent and severe. In Singapore, despite joint efforts by the Singapore Traffic Police (TP), Land Transport Authority (LTA) and various driving/riding schools to promote riding safety, PTW users and their pillion riders remain the most vulnerable group of road users according to the 2010 Annual Road Traffic Situation Report, accounting for 45.6% of all traffic fatalities. The objective of this project is to achieve increased safety for PTW users and pillion riders, working within the context of well-established traffic rules and road practices. It is also the goal of the author to raise awareness and need for collective effort of all road users to achieve that objective, in turn making the roads safer for everyone.
