M.A.P. is a study on maps, mapping and memories of places in Singapore; with information interpreted from maps, pictures and words. M.A.P. is inspired from my love for maps, exploration of local places and geographic metaphors. The project juxtaposes old and new maps and photos to identify changes in Singapore landscape. It identifies memorable places, documents journey and explores the relationship of me with these places. Furthermore, M.A.P. will project an imagination of familiar places in the future. The purpose of the project is to preserve memory and history of places. M.A.P. constructs common memories based on my personal memories and experiences. Hence, topics featured are based on my memories and experiences, but are carefully filtered to ensure majority of target audience can identify with. If possible, M.A.P. also aims to investigate how memory of a place is constructed and what triggers memories of a place. M.A.P. will also study if urban development affects memories of a place. The final product will be an experimental geography atlas. Information, memories and imagination will be visually represented using maps, pictures and words. Cartography will be the main visualization technique, compliment by photography and essays. Contents of the atlas will be organized according to a parallel zoom and time concept.
