Summary: | The investigation of private and public social self originates from the cultural theory of Guy Debord. He believes that in the society of spectacle, our true identities are somewhat concealed in a culture where everything is mediated through images and commodities. I feel that the act of conforming prevents one from conflicting with society, but this struggle between logic and emotions can cause chaos within the inner self.
By employing realism and fantasy into my series of illustrations, I create an interesting blend of the two worlds together. I want to create a series of appealing drawings to address a personal issue. Through my self-portraits, I recreate a posed portrayal of myself to put forward a seemingly false representation in relation to issues stemmed from my strict family background. This is in contrast with the fantasy world i invented through flat drawings which is intentional. Finally, I create my utopia where i can rule my own kingdom, without any interference of the outside world. |
