It is a region largely occupied by ice caps and glaciers, and once considered impenetrable by humans. Until recent times, ships are only able to pass through the region for a maximum period of three months. With the increasing effects of global warming in recent years, those ice caps and glaciers have begun to melt at an accelerated rate. Nevertheless, this drastic melting had led to the opening of Arctic sea routes and thus creating a more accessible Arctic region. |
