| Summary: | Inspired by a previous project mapping out the creation of myths and Reality based on visual perception, Project EyeLight (working title) investigates deeper into the phenomenon of Eyes and Seeing. Adopting an approach that is research intensive, the starting point has been expanded into research findings organised into three different categories: The Scientific, The Spiritual and The Symbolic in Nature.
Through mapping of concepts found through research, several points of connections have been determined, such as the paradox of Light and Dark. This paradox, and all its examinations, is crucial in deciphering the workings of the Eye on all three categories mentioned above. Indeed, it is impossible to talk about the Eye (and its subsequent, Seeing) without having to bring up Light.
The other half concentrates on the phenomenon of the stare, which denotes the power in which the eye as an icon and symbol has. Utilised in Nature by animals such as butterflies, fishes, snakes and birds, this naturally occurring phenomenon is a jumping off point looking into the psychological boundaries between the eye as Observer, and the Observed. |
