Development of nanostructured environmental material for water treatment

Arsenic is a toxic substance which occurs in groundwater occurs mostly as arsenite As(III) or arsenate As(V). Arsenic is more toxic in the +3 than in the +5 state and that many countries in the world consist of aquifers with arsenic concentration at unhealthy concentration. However, most conventiona...

However, most conventional technologies are ineffective in removing arsenic especially in the +3 oxidation state. On the other hand, adsorption is one of the promising techniques proposed to remove arsenic in water. Since MnO2 was identified as an effective oxidizing agent for As(III) and displayed adsorption ability, the hierarchical nanostructured α-MnO2 is the selected material for the removal of arsenic from water.
