Limerence, a term coined by Dr. Tennov, used to describe a state of mind where one is uncontrollably obsessed on a single subject that sustains for an extended period of time with the goal of obtaining reciprocation from the subject. This project uses the characteristics of limerence and translate them into a game form. As games have a similar obsessive nature, hence, games will be an excellent medium to stimulate the characteristics of limerence. To achieve this, the game is designed to bring the player through two stages: 1) when the player is in a non-limerence state and 2) when the player enters a state of limerence. The player will be striving for the objective of attaining reciprocation during the second stage and failure to do so brings the player back to the first stage. This cycle repeats until the objective is met. The duration of the entire game will be reported back to the player at the end of the game, indicating the duration of time the player is obsessed. The aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive environment for limerence to be experienced through gameplay with the objective of developing resilience towards limerence. description |
This project is a game inspired by the works of Dr. Dorothy Tennov in The experience of being in Love: Love
and Limerence. Limerence, a term coined by Dr. Tennov, used to describe a state of mind where one is
uncontrollably obsessed on a single subject that sustains for an extended period of time with the goal of
obtaining reciprocation from the subject.
This project uses the characteristics of limerence and translate them into a game form. As games have a
similar obsessive nature, hence, games will be an excellent medium to stimulate the characteristics of
limerence. To achieve this, the game is designed to bring the player through two stages: 1) when the player is
in a non-limerence state and 2) when the player enters a state of limerence. The player will be striving for the
objective of attaining reciprocation during the second stage and failure to do so brings the player back to the
first stage. This cycle repeats until the objective is met. The duration of the entire game will be reported back
to the player at the end of the game, indicating the duration of time the player is obsessed.
The aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive environment for limerence to be experienced through
gameplay with the objective of developing resilience towards limerence. |
