Description
Summary:Satellite communication has being very important in telecommunication and broadcasting services. For lower frequency bands such as C-band, there is insufficient free space for allocating for future application. So there is a demand of higher frequencies like Ku-band and Ka-band for the space services, but usages of higher frequencies are more susceptible to higher rain attenuation especially in tropical region. The scope of the project is to evaluate the effect of the hydrophobic on rain attenuation and correlation between the Ku-band satellite signal attenuation and rainfall rate. Two Ku-band beacon receiver systems FSL and ZVL were installed at the rooftop of S2.1 building. For FSL system, the dish was coated with hydrophobic paint at November 2009. In this Project, MATLAB software was used to extract and analyze the collected data. Lastly, this report shows the results of before and after coated with hydrophobic paint and included the analysis between the signal strength attenuation and rainfall rate.
