Summary: | Braced excavations are normally modeled using two-dimension analysis. The assumption for this analysis is that the length of the excavation is infinitely long. Thus, it does not take into account of the length of the excavation. However, this analysis may not be totally correct when compared with the actual excavation that is being carried at the site itself. The difference may be quite significant when the length of the excavation is short.
In this study, three-dimension finite elements analysis is conducted to examine the effect of geometry size on the behavior of the brace excavation system. Four different lengths of excavation study are considered. Three different walls stiffness are also considered in this study. Lateral wall movements and strut forces are the two major aspects that are examined in this report. |
