Summary: | The objective of this final year project is to look at the trends of deformation in various lattice structures of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) under external perturbations. The sensitivity level of optical transmission loss is then approximated by the deformations. There are many types of PCF sensor available in the markets. However, the lattice structure of the PCF is usually different. The design of lattice structure will directly affect the sensitivity level of the PCF. Thus, knowledge on how the lattice structure of a fiber that affects sensitivity level of optical transmission loss is essential to the author. In general, two different softwares were used in this project. Solidworks© 2009 was used to model the different lattice structure designs of PCF. Ansys© 12.0 Workbench was used to conduct the computer simulation under tensile, bending and torsion loadings. Under each loading, both under material yield and partial material yield conditions were used. The type of material selected in this project is poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA). The result of key lengths’ changes will be monitored before and after the simulation. |
