Electric vehicle charging/discharging station (EVCDS)-VI : a communication network and a central server

Conventional gas-driven vehicles (GDV) cause air pollution and global warming due to CO2 emission. Electric vehicles (EV) which can be charged by renewable energy systems such as Photovoltaic (PV) system will gradually replace GDVs in future. Singapore government has decided to set aside a sum of $2...

Electric vehicles (EV) which can be charged by renewable energy systems such as Photovoltaic (PV) system will gradually replace GDVs in future. Singapore government has decided to set aside a sum of $20 million for the trial that will put the first Electric Vehicles (EVs) on the roads from next year. Therefore the public facilities for EV charging/discharging will be needed. An EV Charging/Discharging Station mainly consists of a Charging/Discharging Network (CDN) and an Intelligent Metering/Payment Network (IMPN). The CDN includes a DC/DC booster, a charging/discharging controller and a DC/AC bidirectional converter. The MPN includes a two way time-of-use meter, a cash/credit card payment subsystem, a website, a communication network and a central server. The objectives of EVCDS-VI are to design a communication network using wireless or cable network to connect an EV to central server; to guarantee all the data are securely transferred between an EV and central server.
