We will look into the different concepts involved in this study and gain a holistic understanding of the system. The system used for simulations is a direct sequence WCDMA system over an AWGN, Rayleigh channel. We will explore how diversity techniques could improve the efficiency of communication systems. The focus is on how the received signals are being processed, and not how the diversity technique itself is implemented. Two enhancements are proposed in this report. One involves summing up all the received signals before cross-correlating while the other involves decoding the signal that has the largest absolute cross-correlation value. When compared between them, we see that the summation method produces better results and is less computational intensive.
