Summary: | Due to limited space on the surface, there is a need to explore the utilization of underground spaces. This will help increase the usable floor area which can be used for storage. Storage, like oil, that does not require interaction with the atmosphere such as wind and rain, are the perfect way to use the underground space. These will inevitably leaves valuable surface space free to be used for residential, commercial and industrial uses.
Rock is the hardest and sturdiest form of natural material. Due to its high strength, it is an ideal medium in creating underground spaces. This will reduce the need to construct a lot of support for the structure as compared to other soils such as clay, as the inherent rock properties itself is able to support the cavern. |
