Summary: | Under the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint, the need to improve the ways resources are used and to expand renewable resources is recognized. Sustainable construction, which promotes resource-efficient building designs and the use of recycled waste materials, is an important component of sustainable development. In the long run, the depletion of natural resources will very likely lead to higher material prices. Therefore, pro-active steps have to be taken to enhance the resilience in the supply of construction materials.The strength of a material is the greatest stress it can sustain. If the stress exceeds the strength, failure occurs. The aim of this project is to study shear strength of saturated and unsaturated recycled materials. Two types of recycled materials used in this study, which are recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in coarse and fine gradation. By knowing their important physical properties, decision whether these materials are good enough to replace sand and gravel in construction areas can be obtained. |
