Description
Summary:Fibre Metal Laminates consist of several layers of metal alternated with composite materials. The initial phase of FMLs were arall, however it was only after the development of glare that FMLs became more popular in the aviation industry. This report begins by analysing the reviews behind the fabrication process, how the ply orientation of the fibre and the choices of the various selected components affect the overall performance of the final specimens in the second chapter. Some theories, maximum stress criterion, the Tsai-Hill Criterion, Tsai-Wu Criterion and classical laminate theory that are relevant to determine theoretical tensile properties and failures are included too. Fabricating glare, arall and carbon nanotubes modified epoxy fibre metal laminates is one of the two major tasks of this project. From surface pretreatment, application of primer, wet lay-up, mixing and application of resin epoxy, vacuum bagging, curing in autoclave to the final step of cutting, each step requires research and should be done in a detailed manner in accordance to ASTM standards.
