Study of sFRP1 and cyclin D1 of Wnt signalling pathway in triple negative breast cancer and correlation with clinicopathologic outcomes.

Triple negative breast cancer is an exceptionally aggressive cancer that affects younger women and is associated with poorer prognosis. This study reports on the expression of sFRP1 and cyclin D1 of the Wnt signalling pathway and how it relates to clinicopathological parameters and survival outcomes...

This study reports on the expression of sFRP1 and cyclin D1 of the Wnt signalling pathway and how it relates to clinicopathological parameters and survival outcomes in triple negative breast cancer. In an immunohistochemical study of 109 triple negative breast cancer samples, we found that sFRP1 was correlated with age at diagnosis (P=0.014) and tumour growth pattern (P=0.013); Cyclin D1 correlated with lymphovascular invasion (P=0.045). Positive expression of both sFRP1 and cyclin D1 showed trends of better disease free and overall survival, with significantly better overall survival with cyclin D1 expression (P=0.007). These data suggest that there is a role for Wnt signalling in triple negative breast cancer and presents possible targets for therapy development.
