Generating a stable cell line of BT474-biosensor for tracking the metastasis of human breast cancer cells in animal models

Breast cancer is a type of cancer originating from the breast tissue due to DNA mutations that cause normal breast cells to divide uncontrollably and become cancerous. Today, breast cancer is one of the most commonly occurring cancers in women. Hence, advanced research is being conducted on various...

Today, breast cancer is one of the most commonly occurring cancers in women. Hence, advanced research is being conducted on various breast cancer cell lines with hopes of discovering significant improvements in breast cancer treatments. This report illustrates the final year project on the generation of a stable breast cancer cell line of BT474-biosensor. BT474 breast cancer cell line overexpresses human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) which causes tumour cells to grow much more rapidly and to be more aggressive, hence increasing its metastatic ability. As such, tracking the metastasis of human breast cancer cells and examining the effect of new anticancer drugs with a stable BT474-biosensor cell line generated, using animal models, would provide key findings in the study and treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
